It has come to our attention that there are many service companies who perform unauthorized services on our equipment.
Many of these companies also perform so called “calibration check” of critical MARPOL equipment in accordance with MEPC 107(49) & MEPC 108(49) / 240(65). This is a violation of the regulations, which clearly stipulate “calibration check” can only be done by manufacturers authorized service agents.
We formally request all Class surveyors and their affiliates to follow the IMO recommendations and stop the endorsement of illegal certificates issued by non- approved service companies.
Below text is an extract from IMO MARPOL MEPC.107(49) which clearly states only manufacturer authorised individuals may perform above mentioned checks.

4.2.11 The accuracy of the 15 ppm Bilge Alarms should be checked at IOPP Certificate renewal surveys according to the manufacturers instructions. Alternatively the unit may be replaced by a calibrated 15 ppm Bilge Alarm. The calibration for the 15 ppm Bilge Alarm, certifying date of last calibration check, should be retained onboard for inspection purposes. The accuracy checks can only be done by the manufacturer or persons authorized by the manufacturer.
